Welcome; I am a senior ASA [ExpressJet] union pilot that seeks change in our current ALPA contract. This site is here to seek comment on and determine support for changes that will be expounded on further in this site.
Opinions expressed are my own and do not reflect on my union or employer.
The fact that our union is controlled by groups outside our control [ALPA National and AFL-CIO] that pilot desires are filtered through this national apparatus,I think this very operation dilutes our concerns and votes, yet we continue to pay dues to an organization that does not always represent us.
I am a 23 year member, and now find myself reflecting on my membership and where my money goes. Not much change has occurred since our last vote to make changes in leadership, it is with that thought in mind that I am seeking support for a change in our contract.
Since our Contract is in negotiation, this is a good opportunity to change Section 29-- Agency Shop.
Through this site I will circulate a petition that will ask that agency shop be deleted and any contract fee be dropped. The petition, to be valid, will require member names and numbers and be in good standing.
The fact that our leadership will have to earn their dues is a powerful tool. There will be a small group of pilots that will opt for a 'free ride', but for those members who really want change this is a good motivator.
A Petition form will be mailed to those who request it via the email address below. All petitions mailed out will include a self addressed stamped envelope. All requests will remain strictly confidential until such time the petitions are ready for delivery to our MEC . This decision will be made with notice to the group before any action is taken. If after a reasonable time or the Contract under negotiation is TA'ed and I do not have sufficient numbers then I will destroy all petitions.
